Newport County AFC, a football club currently plying their trade in the Blue Square Premier, has a proud history, which includes its advancement to the European Cup Winners Cup quarter final in 1980.
Newport Stadium, situated in Newport, South Wales is part of the Newport International Sports Village.
The Challenge
Newport were keen to upgrade their stadium to Football League status to comply with strict regulations should they achieve their target of promotion. Within a short timescale, Nortech were tasked to provide a turnstile monitoring and stadium count management system that would allow staff access to reliable, accurate information.
Key considerations were for the system to integrate into existing procedures and not cause time delays or difficulties to the wave of fans on match day. Newport County were keen that any monitoring system installed should be easy to operate and understandable for all parties reliant on the data.
VenueMaster has provided us with accurate information and has been simple to operate since day one. We are currently discussing ways of expanding the system and utilising more of its features to benefit Newport County.

The Solution
Nortech’s VenueMaster system offered the end user an intuitive and trustworthy method of recording attendance figures.
New and existing turnstiles are monitored by NCT200 counter modules enabling individual counts of each turnstile to be collected. VenueMaster software running on a standard PC collects and processes the information to provide real time, on-screen data against a plan of the ground.
The software allows users to review individual counts, analyse user-defined count values (e.g all turnstiles at the rear entrance) and monitor the stadiums overall attendance.
The system communicates over an RS485 network and is connected to the PC via a USB converter.
The Benefits
- The easily understandable on-screen display of the number of spectators entering via each turnstile as well as the stadium total provides reliable data to Newport County staff.
- Doesn’t interfere with the existing entry procedure for fans visiting the stadium.
