The Client
Secured Mail is part of the Secured Group, which provides businesses and consumers in the UK with an extensive range of services for their mail. Headquartered in Liverpool, where it has a major distribution centre, it also has depots in Dartford, Kent and Warrington, Cheshire.
The Challenge
When Secured Mail moved into new premises in Dartford at the end of 2010, they had an immediate requirement to protect the sensitive mail in their care by controlling and monitoring access to critical areas within their operation.
A system was needed to enable staff to use their access cards at the Dartford site and subsequently at other UK sites. The system would be connected via the existing IP network to minimise costs. The level of security required the use of proximity readers for entry and exit on all internal doors, in addition to a door entry system on the main entrance.
The system needed to allow for future expansion to include additional sites plus vehicle access, requiring integration with existing Nortech barrier controls.
The Solution
SSAIB certificated CODE Security Systems installed Norpass3, Nortech’s networked access control system, to provide a cost-effective solution relevant to the customers needs. The system is managed via a standard PC and is able to control staff access to multiple Secured Mail premises using a single card.
By preventing staff from entering areas for which they don’t have the appropriate authorisation on their proximity cards, sensitive and valuable mail contents are kept secure while allowing members of staff to carrying out their normal duties.
Nortech’s CRC220 4-door controllers with TCP/IP connectivity met the customer’s wish to integrate with the current IP network. Nortech’s EM mullion proximity readers were used to read staff access cards, and were able to be installed both internally and externally due to their robust, weather-proof design. A Nortech proximity panel-mount reader was integrated into a door entry intercom system fitted at the main entrance.
The system provided by Nortech enabled us to complete the project on time and within budget, with no hassle. We are delighted with the solution provided and the support offered.
